Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (May 13th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Boys Tennis: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost with a team score of 1-6 against East Syracuse Minoa on Saturday. 

Here are the individual results from each match: 

  • 1st Singles: Cortland’s Tyler Cranfield defeated ESM’s Joshua Spilka in two sets - (6-0 & 1-6)
  • 2nd Singles: Cortland’s Kyle Taylor lost to ESM’s Noah Satterlee in two sets (3-6 & 1-6)
  • 3rd Singles: Cortland lost to ESM’s Luke Tumulty by Forfeit
  • 1st Doubles: Cortland’s Jeremie Hale Jr & Corey Smith lost to ESM’s Jayce Domres & Jacob Harmon in two sets (1-6 & 1-6)
  • 2nd Doubles: Cortland’s Andre Myers & Wrangler VanSlyke lost to ESM’s Ari Oviedo & Brett Hockey in two sets (3-6 & 0-6)
  • 3rd Doubles: Cortland lost to ESM’s Owen Tompkins & Ayush Patel by Forfeit
  • 4th Doubles: Cortland lost to ESM’s Ethan Harbinger & Yandel Valdes by Forfeit

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Chenango Valley

The Homer Trojans improved to an overall record of 6-9 after beating Chenango Valley with a score of 17-5 on Saturday. 

Homer was led by Reid Partis (7 goals & 2 assists), Hunter Riehlman (3 goals & 5 assists), Evan Butts (3 goals & 1 assists), Daniel Stiles (2 goals), Mitch Riter (2 assists), Wyatt Wilbur (1 goal), Tucker Gabriel (1 goal), Cooper Swartz (1 assist), Lukas Quinn (1 assist), Michael Stiles (1 assist), and Ben Bradshaw (11 saves). 

Chenango Valley was led by Nate Marinaro (2 goals), Mason Marinaro (1 goal), Roman Dutcher (1 goal), Robert Clark (1 goal), and Jake Rackett (13 saves). 

Up next, Homer will host Marcellus at Homer high school on Tuesday (May 16th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Mexico

The Cortland Lady Purple Tigers defeated Mexico with a score of 14-8 in order to improve to a 4-9 overall record.

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (7 goals & 1 assist), Gabrielle Cranfield (2 goals & 3 assists), Aubree Larkin (2 goals & 2 assists), Francesca Smith (2 goals), Olivia Magin (1 goal & 2 assists), and Hayden Bulger (12 saves).

Cortland’s next game will be a county rivalry game against Homer today (May 15th). The game is scheduled to begin at 5pm at Cortland high school.
