The Cortland Water Department began the process on Monday (June 5) of installing a new 6-inch water main on a city street.

According to an update from Crown City Rising, the installation of a new water main on Cleveland Street will take about five weeks to complete.

The process of this project includes:

  • Cutting a trench to install the new main
  • Following disinfection and testing, construction crews will connect the services to the water main
  • The street will be repaved once the work is complete

The city’s water department will notify all residents before loss of water service. The update, however, noted that emergencies could occur and result in loss of water without a fair warning.

The update stated that the water department will look to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.

For questions or concerns, contact the city’s water distribution supervisor, Justin Guernsey, at 607-345-0012 between the hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
