A soaking rain is likely today as a weather system slowly moves through the area.

Rain showers will be scattered to start the day, but by the late morning, should be turning into a steadier rain. The afternoon should be rainy most of the time.

Before the rain ends late this afternoon or early this evening, localized downpours are expected to develop over the area. These downpours could lead to some minor flooding issues in poor drainage areas and in susceptible basements.

In all, between 1-2 inches of rain is likely, but localized amounts of three inches or more are not out of the question.

Winds will increase out of the southeast this morning, peaking at around 15 mph from the late morning through the mid afternoon. Top gusts of 35-40 mph will be possible.

The wind will eventually turn to the northwest as the rain comes to an end late, with gentle speeds overnight.

Temperatures may break into the low 70s for a short time this morning but will spend much of the day in the upper 60s. Once winds shift tonight, temperatures will quickly fall into the 50s with an overnight low around 50 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Tuesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows near 50. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Morning lows near 50. Afternoon highs near 70.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.
