Inaugural Pride Festival held in Cortland

The first-ever Cortland Community Pride Festival was held at Courthouse Park in the city of Cortland over the weekend.

State assemblywoman Anna Kelles (D-Ithaca), along with representatives from the Cortland LGBTQ center, provided opening remarks. It was followed by a proclamation from Whitney Hargett of the office of state senator Lea Webb (D-52nd District).

The festival also included a drag show that featured Noah Phence, Queen Tessential, Femme De Violette, and Saylix Morrison.

The festival also offered yard games and community-led workshops at Cortland Free Library. According to organizers of the festival, over 40 vendors were in attendance.

“We wanted to throw on a full Cortland pride to get the LGBTQ community together,” said Mike Doughty, festival organizer who is also the program coordinator for the Cortland LGBTQ center. “There’s a lot here, but it’s hard to find a sense of community when there aren’t events like this.
