The McGraw Eagles defeated Moravia in a dominating first round of the McGraw Boys Soccer Tournament. The Eagles won the game with a score of 2-0.

“I thought we opened up really well,” said McGraw head coach Jamie Crumb. “We dominated possession and we had a lot of shots on goal. We could've put a few more away, but overall it was a good showing.”

McGraw’s possession game dominated the midfield, and allowed McGraw to have a total of 35 shots in the game. 13 of those shots came from McGraw freshman Logan Moffitt.

“We were possessing the ball really well, so I knew there were going to be a lot of chances of scoring,” said Moffitt. “I wanted to take as many shots as I could, but then you have to look at what other better opportunities other players have too.”

However, even though McGraw had many chances on goal, the Eagles were not able to convert in the first half of the game.

After a few halftime adjustments, McGraw was able to get on the board with two goals.

Their first goal was scored by Ryan Parks (assisted by Jaydon Bassett) and the second goal was scored by Logan Moffitt (assisted by Thomas Bonyak).

“We anticipated a little bit of more pressure from them in the middle and back, and it allowed us to be in our final third a lot,” stated coach Crumb. “We just had a halftime talk about attacking them in different ways from the angles.

With this win, the Eagles have started their regular season off with a 1-0 record, and are now scheduled to take on Edmeston in the championship game at McGraw’s Bennett St. Field on Friday, September 1st, 2023 at 12pm (noon).
