High pressure will extend eastward from the Great Lakes today, keeping our weather cool and quiet today.

Sunshine is likely this morning but will quickly mix with fair weather clouds. Partly cloudy skies will then persist through the afternoon until late in the day, when they will dissipate as quickly as they popped up.

With the high pressure centered to our west, cool northwest winds will blow today. Wind speeds may approach 10 mph at times with a few gusts over 20 mph.

Temperatures will be among the coolest we have seen so far this season with afternoon highs in the low and mid 60s. A few of the hilltops in the northern part of the county may struggle to get beyond 60 degrees.

Clear skies late this afternoon will persist into the evening and through the overnight. Winds will also lose speed as the high pressure moves overhead.

These will be ideal cooling conditions, resulting in a quick drop into the upper 40s this evening. Overnight lows will make it into the low and mid 40s with a few cold pockets even flirting with the upper 30s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Friday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the low and mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Saturday: Thin clouds on the edge of Hurricane Lee. Some breezy north winds, but nothing abnormally strong. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 60s.

Sunday: Sun and clouds. A few late showers possible. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs around 70.

Monday: More clouds than sun with an occasional shower. Morning lows in the low 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 60s.
