Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 14th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Volleyball: Cortland vs. Corcoran

The Cortland Lady Tigers beat Corcoran after a fought out match that went all the way to five sets Thursday night. With this win, Cortland improved to a 2-3 record. 

Cortland was led by Alizabeth West (10 kills, 13 digs, & 2 aces), Brenna Hogan (6 kills, 4 digs & 4 aces), Sophie Mayer (2 kills, 10 digs & 2 aces), and Katie Harris (27 assists). 

Corcoran was led by Kiyla Montgomery (2 kills, 13 digs & 5 aces) and Myra Menon (2 kills, 2 digs, 12 assists & 2 aces). 

Cortland is now scheduled to host Fowler on Tuesday (September 19th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Volleyball: Homer vs. Fowler

The Homer Lady Trojans won in three straight sets against Fowler in order to improve to a 5-1 record.

Varsity Football: Cortland vs. Jamesville-Dewitt

The Cortland varsity football team shutout Jamesville-Dewitt 48-0 in order to win their first game since October of 2021.

Now that the Purple Tigers got their first win, they will be looking to keep their winning streak alive as they travel to Mexico next Friday (September 22nd). The game is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Football: Homer vs. New Hartford

The Homer Trojans fell to a 1-1 record after losing on the road against New Hartford with a score of 8-62 Thursday night.

Homer will look to get things back on track as they host their first home game of the season against Chittenango on Friday (September 22nd) at 7pm.

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated the Homer Trojans in a county rivalry game at Homer high school with a score of 5-0 Thursday night. 

With this result, Cortland improved to an overall record of 3-3; while Homer fell to 2-3. 

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (3 goals), Spenser Dodds (1 goal & 1 assist), Daniel Dubetsky (1 goal), Cal Albright (1 assist), Austin Lind (1 assist), and Liam Burns (3 saves). 

Homer goalies Kida, Oliver and Levi Guay combined to make 7 saves in the game. Kida made 5 saves and Guay made 2 saves. 

Up next, Cortland will play Phoenix on the road this upcoming Monday (September 18th) at 7pm; while Homer plays Chittenango on the road on Wednesday (September 20th) at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Margaretville

The Marathon olympians improved their unbeaten record to 4-0 after defeating Maragaretville in the first round of the Margaretville boys soccer tournament Thursday evening. 

Marathon won the game with a final score of 4-0. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (2 goals & 1 assist), Bode Carter (1 goal & 1 assist), 1 Aydan Brown (1 goal), Colton Oram (1 goal), Brittan Keller (1 assist), and Daniel Merihew (1 save). 

Marathon will be playing in the final round of the tournament today (Friday, September 15th) at Margaretville high school at 7pm against S.S. Seward Institute. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: McGraw vs. Delaware Academy

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost in overtime 0-1 against Delaware Academy on a road non-league game Thursday afternoon. With this loss, McGraw has fallen to an overall record of 3-3. 

McGraw goalkeeper Heather Magee recorded a total of 7 saves in the game.

McGraw is now scheduled to play on the road against DeRuyter this upcoming Tuesday (September 19th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Golf: Homer vs. Chittenango

The Homer Trojans beat Chittenango with a team score of 230-265 Thursday afternoon. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).

The Homer varsity girls tennis team lost to Cazenovia on the road with a team result of 6-1 Thursday evening.
