Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 18th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: McGraw vs. Otselic Valley

The McGraw Eagles improved to a 4-2 record after beating Otselic Valley with a score of 3-0 Monday evening. 

McGraw was led by Logan Moffitt (1 goal & 1 assist), Thomas Bonyak (1 goal), Jaydon Bassett (1 goal), Calob Sutton (1 assist), and Noah Heath (11 saves). 

Otselic Valley goalie Caleb Loomis made 10 saves in the game. 

Up next, McGraw will play at home against Madison on Wednesday (September 20th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Edmeston

The Cincinnatus Lions lost a close home game in overtime against Edmeston with a score of 2-3. With this loss, Cincinnatus fell to an overall record of 4-2-1. 

Cincinnatus’ goals were scored by John Schuyler (1 goal) and Canden Stafford (1 goal).

Note: Edmeston’s stats were not made available by the time this article was written. 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played at home against DeRuyter on Wednesday (September 20th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians lost a tough game on the road against Southern Cayuga in overtime. Marathon lost the game with a score of 2-3. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (1 goal), Bode Carter (1 goal), and Daniel Merihew ( 5 saves). 

Note: Southern Cayuga’s stats were not made available by the time this article was written. 

The now 5-1 Olympians are scheduled to host Lansing at Marathon high school this Thursday (September 21st) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Tennis: Homer vs. Manlius Pebble Hill

The Homer Lady Trojans lost a matchup against Manlius Pebble Hill at Homer high school Monday afternoon with a team result of 3-4.

Up next, Homer is scheduled to host Westhill today (Tuesday, September 19th) at Homer high school. Matches will begin at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Marathon vs. Spencer Van Etten

The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Spencer Van Etten with a score of 2-1 Monday afternoon. 

Marathon was led by Catherine Newkirk (1 goal & 1 assist), Savanna Warfield (1 goal), and Cassandra Forrest (8 saves). 

Spencer Van Etten was led by Kendall Gentile (1 goal), Claire Rollins (1 assist), and Katelyn Klym (13 saves). 

Marathon’s next game will be played on the road against Newark Valley on Wednesday (September 20th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Golf: Homer vs. Tully

The Homer Trojans lost to Tully with a close team score of 223-226 Monday afternoon. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).
