Clouds associated with Tropical Storm Ophelia will be locked into place over our region today.

Ophelia will make landfall in southern North Carolina today, but a complex weather setup will help pull moisture from Ophelia northward.

At the same time, high pressure over Canada will try to press southward toward our region.

While clouds will remain a steady presence through the day, the chances for rain are a greater question. As moisture from Ophelia moves northward, it will get tugged to the east. At the same time, dry air from the high will attempt to lodge itself overhead.

The result will be that most of the rain will deflect eastward toward southern New England. Some showers are not totally out of the question here. If it does rain, it should be light and mainly in the late afternoon or evening hours.

Temperatures will be held in check by the clouds and the influx of dry air from Canada. Most of the county will fail to make it to 65 degrees, though some areas will come close.

Tonight, temperatures will slide back through the 50s. Overnight lows will remain around 50 degrees.

Rain will make another push northward after midnight, this time with more success. The rain should become widespread by the time the sun rises on Sunday.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Periods of rain, sometimes steady and/or heavy. Morning lows around 50. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Monday: Cloudy with occasional showers. Morning lows around 50. Afternoon highs around 60.

Tuesday: More clouds than sun. A few showers possible. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.
