City construction updates: Groton Avenue, Alvena Avenue and more

Multiple streets in the city of Cortland have projects that are currently underway today (Sept. 25) and the rest of this week.

Below are a few construction updates for projects across the city.

Road closure on West Court Street

According to Crown City Rising, West Court Street will be closed again from Main Street to Monroe Height to continue the installation of water services in the area. There will be isolated water-service disruptions for properties on West Court Street.

Work on West Court began on Friday. Details on when it will conclude remain to be seen.

The various projects on Main Street are the city’s continuation of its Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Cortland started working on projects last year.

Groton Avenue Public Improvement Project begins today

The Groton Avenue Public Improvement Project begins today (Sept. 25). According to Crown City Rising, crews will start with sanitary sewer service work between Main Street and Homer Avenue.

Construction work on Groton Avenue will result in the street between Main Street and Homer Avenue being closed to through traffic. Local traffic will have access to businesses and the Groton Avenue parking lot.

The primary detour for the Groton Avenue project will be Woodruff Street to Madison Street, and Clinton Avenue to North Main Street to Madison Street.

Alvena Avenue closed for paving 

The Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) announced the Alvena Avenue entrance at Homer Avenue will be temporarily closed to traffic for three afternoons this week.

The entrance will be closed from 3 to 7 p.m. today (Sept. 25), Tuesday (Sept. 26) and Wednesday (Sept. 27). The paving process is part of GCMC’s current parking lot reconstruction project, which can be viewed by clicking here.

“We appreciate the patience from our neighbors as we continue to renovate our parking lot in an effort to enhance the experience for all patients, visitors and caregivers,” according to a release from GCMC.
