High pressure and moisture left behind by Tropical Storm Ophelia will continue to play tug-of-war over our region today.

Rain showers should be hard to come by, though a stray spit of rain here or there cannot be ruled out. Instead, the main battle will be played out in the cloud cover.

Dry air from the north will try to push in and will lead to some breaks of sun in the clouds. These are especially likely in the northern parts of the county, and it may even become sunny for periods of time there.

Toward the southern end of the county, it may be difficult to get the sun out much at all.

Clouds will further increase over the course of the afternoon, so the day should end mostly cloudy for all.

The cloud cover will persist into the evening and through the overnight, though these may be thin enough to allow some moonlight to filter through.

Winds will be from the northeast this morning, then turning to the east or even southeast during the afternoon. Wind speeds will be around or slightly over 5 mph.

Afternoon highs will mainly be above 65 degrees, with areas in and around Cortland, and in the southeastern corner of the county having the best shot at seeing upper 60s.

Evening temperatures will drop through the 50s with overnight lows in the mid 40s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Tuesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Wednesday: Sunny with some thin clouds. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Thursday: Increasing clouds with a shower possible late. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with occasional showers. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.
