The McGraw Eagles improved to a 6-4-1 overall record after beating Groton on the road with a score of 6-0 Saturday night. 

McGraw was led by Logan Moffitt (2 goals), Jaydon Bassett (1 goal & 1 assist), Thomas Bonyak (2 assists), Bryce Murray (1 goal), Noah Heath (1 goal), and Calob Sutton (1 goal).  

McGraw will now look forward to playing at home this Tuesday (October 3rd) against Stockbridge Valley at 4:30pm.

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Dryden

The Marathon Olympians tied 0-0 in double-overtime against Dryden Saturday night. 

This was Marathon’s first tie of the season, bringing their overall record to 10-1-1. 

Marathon’s next game will be played at Marathon high school today (Monday, October 2nd) at 4:30pm.

The Cortland Purple Tigers pulled off a second half comeback in order to defeat LaFayette 2-1 Saturday morning. With this win, Cortland improved to a 6-6 record.

Cortland is now scheduled to host Westhill at Cortland junior senior high school on Tuesday (October 3rd) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: McGraw vs. Groton

The McGraw Lady Eagles fell to an overall record of 4-8 after losing to Groton Saturday night at Groton high school. McGraw lost the game with a close score of 1-2. 

McGraw’s only goal of the game was scored by Hannah Wilson.

McGraw goalkeeper Heather Magee made 6 saves in the game.

Up next, McGraw will play Stockbridge Valley on the road today (Monday, October 2nd) at 4:30pm.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Carthage

The Homer Lady Trojans won 2-0 against Carthage on the road on Saturday. With this win, Homer improved to an overall record of 4-6-1. 

Homer was led by Kennadie Taylor (1 goal), Mikayla Smith (1 goal), Caitlin McCloy (1 assist), Khloe Young (1 assist), and Alex Kellaway (5 saves). 

Carthage goalkeeper Elizabeth Phillips recorded 7 saves in the game. 

Homer’s next game is scheduled to be played on the road against Auburn on Tuesday (October 3rd) at 7pm. 

Varsity Cross Country: Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (McQuaid Invitational 2023)

The Marathon Olympians competed in the 2023 A-2 Small School McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday. Each race was 3 miles long. 

A total of 464 runners competed in the boys’ race, while a total of 358 runners competed in the girls’ race. 

Here are some highlights from both Marathon boys’ and girls’ teams:

Marathon Boys

  • Andrew Edsall placed 33rd overall (Time - 16:41.00)
  • Zachary Birdsall finished in 110th place overall (Time - 17:58.40)
  • Blake Birdsall came in 208th place overall (Time - 19:14.60)

Marathon Girls

  • Abigail Trabucco finished in 87th place overall (Time - 21:26.80)
  • Larina Cochran placed 280th overall (Time - 25:06.00)
  • Hanna Prestigiacomo came in 308th place overall (Time - 26:09.00)
