Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 2nd)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The current No.7 state seeded Cincinnatus Lady Lions won 10-0 against DeRuyter Monday evening in order to improve their unbeaten record to 11-0-1. 

The Lady Lions were led by Jocelyn Turshman (4 goals & 1 assist), Cassia Schuyler (3 goals), Ava Larrabee (1 goal & 1 assists), Payton Landers (1 goal & 1 assist), Linette Custer (1 goal), and Mandi Waltz (2 assists). 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played on the road against Stockbridge Valley on Wednesday (October 4th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost to Stockbridge Valley with a score of 1-2 Monday evening. With this loss, McGraw has fallen to an overall record of 4-10. 

McGraw was led by Karissa Moffitt (1 goal), Myranda Murray (1 assist), and Heather Magee  (3 saves). 

Note: Stockbridge Valley’s stats were not made available by the time this article was written. 

Up next, McGraw will host a county rivalry game against Cincinnatus on Saturday (October 7th) at 10am. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Homer vs. Solvay

The Homer Trojans fell to an overall record of 2-8 after losing to Solvay with a score of 0-6. 

Solvay was led by Oleksandr Matyiuk (3 goals & 1 assist), Joshua Chipman (1 goal & 2 assists), Arkadii Ososkalo (1 goal), and Shahab Kassim (1 goal). 

Homer’s next game will be played against county rival Cortland on Thursday (October 5th) at Cortland junior-senior high school. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Groton

The Marathon Olympians defeated Groton 7-1 at home Monday evening in order to improve to an 11-1-1 record. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (5 goals & 1 assist), Jacob Byron (1 goal), Aydan Brown (1 goal), Camdyn Kashuba (2 assists), and Brittan Keller (1 assist). 

Groton was led by Conor Eldred (1 goal) and Ethan Besler (9 saves). 

Marathon is now scheduled to play a county matchup on the road against Cincinnatus today (Tuesday, October 3rd) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cortland vs. Skaneateles

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost in four sets against Skaneateles, bringing their record down to 5-5. 

Cortland was led by Rileigh Madden (5 kills, 10 digs & 5 aces), Alizabeth West (3 kills, 13 digs & 4 aces), Morgan Howard (4 digs & 8 assists), and Natalee Kressler (16 digs).

Cortland will now look to bounce back as they take on Westhill on the road tonight (Tuesday, October 3rd) at 6pm.  

Varsity Field Hockey: Cortland vs. Auburn

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost a road game with a score of 0-5 against Auburn. With this loss, Cortland now holds an 0-9 overall record.
