Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 12th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Madison

The No.7 state ranked Cincinnatus Lady Lions ended their regular season with an unbeaten record of 16-0-1 after defeating Madison on the road with a score of 9-0. 

Cincinnatus was led by Cassia Schuyler (6 goals & 1 assist), Lucy Finch (1 goal & 1 assist), Mandi Waltz (1 goal & 1 assist), Ava Larrabee (1 goal & 1 assist), Jocelyn Turshman (1 goal & 1 assist), Payton Landers (1 assist), Madison Stover (1 assist). 

According to Section III, the committee will meet on Sunday (October 15th) to seed the 2023 Sectional Tournament.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cortland vs. Tully

The Cortland Lady Tigers won 5-0 at home in order to end the regular season with an overall record of 6-9-1. 

Cortland was led by Maude Terwilliger (2 goals), Valerosa Gambitta (2 assists), Courtney Purves (1 goal), Bailey Dintino (1 goal), Sarah Williams (1 assist), Aubree Larkin (1 assist), Lauren Mott (1 goal & 3 saves), and Danika Peck (3 saves). 

According to Section III, the committee will meet on Sunday (October 15th) to seed the 2023 Sectional Tournament.

The Homer Lady Trojans lost 0-1 against Mexico Thursday evening. With this loss, Homer has fallen to an overall record of 5-8-2. 

Homer goalkeeper Alex Kellaway recorded 7 saves in the game.

Homer is scheduled to host their last game of the regular season against Marcellus on Saturday (October 14th). The game will be played at Homer high school at 10am. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: McGraw vs. Otselic Valley

The McGraw Lady Eagles fell to an overall record of 3-12 after losing to Otselic Valley with a score of 0-5. 

McGraw goalkeeper Heather Magee recorded 8 saves in the game. 

Otselic Valley was led by Rachel Loomis (2 goals), Makayla Mills (1 goal & 1 assist), Kali Waltz (1 goal), and Kimmy Miron (1 goal). 

This was McGraw’s last game of the season. 

Varsity Girls Tennis: Homer’s Effinger and Franco win doubles sectional championship

The Homer Trojan duo, Emma Effinger and Lauren Franco were crowned Section III Division II Doubles Champions Thursday evening.

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost 0-3 against Christian Brothers Academy Thursday evening. With this loss, Cortland ended their regular season with an 8-8 record. 

Cortland goalkeeper Liam Burns made 18 saves in the game. 

Christian Brothers Academy’s goals were scored by Zach Walma (1 goal), Juliuz Pichardo-Kemp (1 goal), and Connor Morgia (1 goal). 

According to Section III, the committee will meet on Sunday (October 15th) to seed the 2023 Sectional Tournament.

Varsity Boys Soccer: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Trojans won 2-1 against Mexico in order to improve to a 10-3 record. 

Homer was led by Ian Small (1 goal & 1 assist), Tyler Van Etten (1 goal), Laramy Velasquez-Ramirez (1 assist), Levi Guay (4 saves), and Oliver Kida (4 saves).

This was Homer’s last game of the season.

The Homer Lady Trojans played their last game of the regular season against Cazenovia Thursday night. Homer lost the game with a score of 0-3. 

Homer goalie Aislynn Cobb recorded 23 saves in the game.

Cazenovia was led by Reid McMurtrie (2 goals), Maya Gilmore (1 goal), Margaret Huftalen (1 assist), and Madison Rothfeld (1 save). 

Homer ended their regular season with an overall record of 6-10.
