A road in the downtown area of the city of Cortland will be closed today (Friday, Oct. 13) and a day next week.

According to Crown City Rising, West Court Street between Main Street and Monroe Heights remained closed on Friday. The closure is in preparation for the relocation of natural gas mains.

The road closure in this area of downtown will be removed for the weekend. The closure, however, will be reinstated next week on Tuesday (Oct. 17).

Also today, construction crews will resume the installation of storm sewer lines on the east side of Main Street between Court Street and Central Avenue. Parking is limited on the east side of Main Street, but parking on the west side has re-opened.

As part of Crown City Rising’s recent update, a reminder on construction zone signage was also provided:

“Residents and motorists are reminded that construction zone signage is in place for the safety of drivers and construction workers. Altering or vandalizing construction signage and traffic cones creates a serious risk of injury for everyone involved and is a criminal offense.”

The various projects on Main Street are the city’s continuation of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Cortland started working on projects last year.
