Chilly, unsettled weather will persist today as low pressure lingers over the region.

The center of the low will be out over the Atlantic Ocean off the New England coast, but that will still be close enough to directly influence our weather.

North and northwest winds on the backside of the low will blow steadily and briskly today. Wind speeds will be near or slightly over 10 mph. Wind gusts may approach 30 mph.

These winds will keep moisture in the region, which Lake Ontario will enhance further.

Plenty of clouds and a few showers will result. Rain will be possible at any time of the day, and even when it is not raining, it may still be misty or drizzly.

That being said, the rain today should not be a steady affair, with on and off showers. A few glimpses of sun may even poke out between showers, especially this afternoon.

It will remain chilly with high temperatures struggling to even reach 50 degrees. Higher elevations will probably only see upper 40s.

Tonight, with clouds only thickening and showers persisting, temperatures will be slow to drop. Evening temperatures will dip to the mid 40s while overnight lows will end up around 40 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Monday: Cloudy with scattered showers. Morning lows near 40. Afternoon highs in the low 50s.

Tuesday: Cloudy with a few scattered showers. Morning lows near 40.  Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.

Thursday: Thin overcast, possibly with some filtered sunshine. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.
