Cortland Purple Tigers end regular season with a win over Southern Hills; Player breaks record

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Southern Hills at Cortland junior-senior high school with a score of 35-28 Thursday night. 

Cortland’s offense was led by Gage Burlingame (1 rushing touchdown, 134 rushing yards & 58 receiving yards), Robbie Atkins (2 touchdown throws, 1 rushing touchdown, 182 throwing yards, 47 rushing yards & 2 interceptions thrown), Daniel Jackson (2 touchdown receptions & 61 receiving yards), Wyatt Tinker (1 rushing touchdown), and Jaxson Gambitta (5 extra point kicks). 

Cortland’s defense was led by DaeSean West (7 tackles), Logan Griffin (6 tackles), Daniel Jackson (4 tackles & 1 interception), and Wyatt Tinker (4 tackles).

According to Cortland head coach Brett Segala, Cortland senior Wyatt Tinker set a school record of 82 tackles in a regular season.

Southern Hills’ points were scored by Nathan Reid (2 touchdown throws), Peyton Hewitt (2 touchdown receptions), Harper Shaw (1 rushing touchdown), Sam Denue (1 interception return touchdown), and Kevin Yonko (4 extra point kicks).

This was Cortland’s last game of the regal season. With this win, Cortland ended the regular season with an overall record of 3-5. 

According to Section III, there will be a seeding meeting on Sunday (October 22nd) that will determine Cortland’s seeding and first round opponent.
