Homer High School’s Homer Shakespearean Society, a program for over 65 years, is holding its first theater production for the 2023-24 school year this weekend.
The Homer Shakespearean Society will present William Shakespeare’s classical comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this Friday (Nov. 17) at 7 p.m. and Saturday (Nov. 18) at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Homer HS auditorium.
A special, free preview of the show will be offered to Homer HS students during school hours on Thursday (Nov. 16).
The show’s runtime is about two hours and five minutes, with no 15-minute intermission. It’s the first of three shows in Homer’s theater production year.
A description of Midsummer Night’s Dream is below:
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream distinguishes itself not only as a single play, but many plays in one. It is, in fact, a play within a play within a play. And perhaps...within another play. Mischievous tricks, extraterrestrial creatures, dancing shadows, confused lovers, and bumbling actors collide in spectacular, nonsensical, atrocious, magical disasters in William Shakespeare’s most popular comedy. The boundaries between actors and audience disappear from existence, promising a night full of belly-laughs and hee-haws for the whole family!”
The cost for the show is priced between $6-to-8, with group discounts available for local-area high schools and colleges.
The show is directed by Mr. Reed ‘RC’ Cleland, a former Shakespearean and regional community actor. Other production staff members include Ms. Melissa Campos (Technical Director), Ms. Erin Bosch (Assistant Director) and Mr. Zack Sovocool (Sound Coordinator).
