Marathon senior Abby Ensign reached the 1,000 career point milestone Friday night at Marathon high school, as the Lady Olympians defeated Whitney Point 57-36.

Ensign only needed 8 points to reach the 1,000 career point mark before Friday’s game.

She reached the milestone after scoring 8 points in the first quarter. She scored a two-pointer as well as 2 three-pointers to reach the 1,000 point milestone.

Following the three-pointer by Ensign that brought her to 1,000 career points, Marathon called a timeout to honor Ensign in front of a large crowd.

The Lady Olyimpians entered halftime with a 36-12 lead.

With emotions running high, Marathon kept their composure throughout the rest of the game to ultimately come out with the win.

“I thought that it was a great team win,” said Marathon head coach Beth Anne Duncan. “We knew that Abby was close, so we didn’t really harp on it. We just worried about getting the win, playing good defense, and having great effort. It was nice to see that the gym was full with people. That could've been a moment where our girls could’ve gotten raddled, but they took it in stride and played really good defense to start, and got a great lead.”

Marathon was led by Addison Oram (24 points), Abby Ensign (12 points), and Anna Hoyt (10 points).

“Anytime we get Abby (Ensign), Anna (Hoyt), and Addie (Addison Oram) in the double digits, we’re going to be a tough team to beat,” added coach Duncan

Oram’s 24 point performance was also a single game career high for her.

Whitney Point was led by Sadee Short (10 points) and Billie Leet (6 points).
