West and northwest winds behind a cold front last night will bring cooler air, cloud cover, and a few snow showers back into the area today.

Sunshine will be limited to a few glimpses here and there, mostly during the morning hours. However, most of the day will remain dry, with the chances for a few snow showers increasing later in the afternoon.

The best chance for snow will come this evening as lake effect off Lake Ontario moves southward. The northern parts of the county will have the best chance for steadier snows, while the rest of the county sees on and off snow showers.

Accumulations will be minimal, with no more than an inch or two over the northern hills with a light coating elsewhere.

Winds will start from the west this morning and will turn to the northwest this afternoon and evening. As the wind turns, it will increase, with speeds around or just over 10 mph this afternoon. Gusts should stay just under 30 mph.

Overnight, the wind will turn again, this time to the southwest. Lake effect will retreat north and out of our area. By Thursday morning, skies will be turning sunny.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Thursday: Sunshine and some occasional thin clouds. Morning lows around 20. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Friday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows near 30. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the low to mid 40s.
