Your Cortland County weather forecast for Friday, January 5, 2024:

A small area of high pressure will pass through the area today, leading to quiet weather conditions.

There should be a fair bit of sunshine today, especially from the late morning through the mid afternoon hours.

Early on, some lingering lake effect clouds will pass through the region. Late in the day, thin clouds out ahead of Saturday’s snow maker will begin to build in.

These late clouds will turn into a thickening overcast this evening and overnight, but no precipitation will fall.

Winds will be from the west and southwest today with speeds of 5-10 mph. Top gusts will be just over 20 mph.

Temperatures will remain close to average with an afternoon high near or just above 30 degrees. Evening temperatures will drop back into the 20s with an overnight low in the low 20s.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Snow arrives during the late afternoon, turning steady and moderate overnight with 4-8 inches of accumulation. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.

Sunday: Light snow through the morning, tapering off in the afternoon. Little if any additional accumulation. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.

Monday: A mix of clouds and some sun. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Tuesday: Cloudy. Rain arriving late, possibly mixing with some snow early. Becoming very windy during the evening. Morning lows in the upper 10s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s with nighttime temperatures rising into the low 40s.
