Snow will move into the area this afternoon with moderate accumulations through the overnight.

Cloudy skies will dominate the morning hours, but it will remain dry.

The first snow showers could start to arrive as early as noon, but the steadier snow should hold off until the mid-afternoon hours.

Snow will fall at a moderate to heavy rate through the later afternoon and evening hours. During the late evening, the snow should become lighter and may even stop altogether for a time.

Light snow will pick back up, or simply continue, through the overnight.

Before sunset, temperatures will be around the freezing mark, so at least the main roads may stay in decent shape. Once the sun sets, travel conditions will deteriorate quickly.

In all, snow amounts by sunrise Sunday should be in the 6-8 inch range. Some locally higher amounts may be possible, along with the natural variations that come in any snow event.

Temperatures will peak just before the snow arrives in the low to mid 30s. Low 30s are expected while it snows during the day, with upper 20s during the nighttime hours.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Light but steady snow through the morning, tapering off in the afternoon. Another inch or two of accumulation. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.
