An anticipation complete date for the new steps at the Cortland County Courthouse steps was recently announced.

Chuck Miller, the county’s Director of Buildings & Grounds, told The Cortland Voice that courthouse steps construction is slated to be completed between the end of January and early February.

The project is reaching its conclusion after a handful of years of planning, supply issues and delays, and construction. Miller said the new courthouse steps had to be done “as close to the original as possible,” with the county courthouse being a historic building.

The new courthouse steps include weather controls to keep the steps clean in the winter, as well as the lighting and lighting controls. Miller added that heated steps mean they no longer need to be salted, and the front level of steps and original lighting lamps have been restored.

“Everything was torn down to the footers and rebuilt,” Miller said.

County legislator Beau Harbin (D-LD-2) said at the City of Cortland Common Council meeting in December that a ceremony unveiling the new courthouse steps will take place shortly following the conclusion of construction.
