Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 8th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Onondaga

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Onondaga with a score of 66-43 at Cortland junior-senior high school Monday night. With this result, Cortland improved their overall record to 2-8. 

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (21 points), Jaxson Gambitta (12 points), and Owen Johnson (12 points). 

Onondaga was led by Hunter Neuman (13 points) and Hunter Neuman (12 points). 

Up next, Cortland will play on the road against Westhill on Thursday (January 11th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Morrisville-Eaton

The McGraw Lady Eagles have fallen to an overall record of 4-7 after losing to Morrisville-Eaton on the road Monday evening. McGraw lost the game with a score of 37-22. 

McGraw was led by Hannah Wilson (8 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist & 3 steals), Lexi McCall (6 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist & 2 steals), and Heather Magee (3 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist & 3 steals).  

Morrisville-Eaton was led by Aspen Koehl (11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist & 5 steals), Sophia Wilcox (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists & 3 steals), Riley Dutcher (8 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists & 5 steals). 

McGraw’s next game will be played on the road against Stockbridge Valley on Wednesday (January 10th) at 6pm.  

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. McGraw

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated county rival McGraw (Lady Eagles) after three straight sets Monday night. The match was played at Cincinnatus high school. 

With this result, Cincinnatus improved to an 8-2 record, while McGraw fell to a 2-4 record. 

This was Cincinnatus’ second win against McGraw this season, as they also won their last encounter in December

Cincinnatus was led by Allyson St.Germain (12 kills, 1 block & 6 aces), Kaedence Latta (15 assists, 3 aces & 1 kill), and Cassia Schuyler (15 aces, 1 dig & 1 assist). 

McGraw was led by Remington Stull (2 digs, 1 kill & 1 block), Camdyn Caperton (1 block, 1 dig & 1 ace), and Emmily Thomas (1 kill, 1 dig & 1 assist). 

Up next, Cincinnatus is scheduled to host Stockbridge Valley at Cincinnatus high school on Thursday (January 11th) at 7pm; while McGraw hosts DeRuyter at McGraw high school on Thursday (January 11th) at 7pm.
