A brave feline was found in an unusual place in Cortland County earlier this week.

Potato the cat was found “packed in a large load of recyclables” that was dropped off at the county recycling center on Pendleton Street in Cortland on Tuesday, according to a post on the recycling center Facebook page.

County recycling center employees said Potato was cold, but uninjured. The employees took Potato to the office for warmth. Soon afterwards, the Cortland County SPCA took Potato to its facility until his family was able to find him.

On Wednesday, Potato was back with his family “unharmed and happy,” noted in a post on the recycling center’s Facebook page.

The county recycling employees thanked “over 1,000 people” for sharing a Facebook post on Potato, and for the assistance provided by the County SPCA.

“This story could have ended much differently considering what he went through and the heavy equipment he managed to dodge before we found him,” stated in a County Recycling Center Facebook post, noting Potato is “much happier” to be back with his family.
