Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 19th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Institute of Technology Syracuse (ITC)

The Cortland Purple Tigers played ITC Syracuse at Cortland junior-senior high school Friday night. The Tigers lost the game with a score of 46-38 after an ITC Syraccuse fourth quarter surge. 

With this loss, Cortland has fallen to an overall record of 2-10. 

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (16 points), Damauri Bell (6 points), Zachary Muir (6 points), Jaxson Gambitta (4 points), Antonio Terrazas (4 points), and Cal Albright (2 points).

ITC Syracuse was led by Nyquan Gilbert (17 points), Tyquanne Harris (11 points), Antwan Aiken Jr (6 points), Lamar Watts (4 points), Marshon Scott (3 points), Brian Hall (3 points), and Tyquan Thomas (2 points).

Cortland’s next game will be played at Cortland junior-senior high school against Mexico this upcoming Monday (January 22nd) at 6:45pm.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions won 49-47 against Otselic Valley to improve their overall record to 5-8 Friday night. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (22 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists & 2 steals), Jack Stafford (12 points, 5 rebounds & 1 steal), John Schuyler (12 points, 6 rebounds & 4 assists), and Koda Temple (3 points & 3 rebounds). 

Otselic Valley was led by Braeden Davis (30 points), Caleb Loomis (9 points), Cole Warren (5 points), and Owen Davis (3 points). 

Up next, Cincinnatus will host Faith Heritage at Cincinnatus high school on Monday (January 22nd) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Olympians fell to an overall record of 5-8 after losing to Moravia with a score of 64-31. 

Marathon was led by Bode Carter (6 points) Bryce Hartman (6 points), Blake Birdsall (5 points), Zachary Birdsall (5 points), Austin Poth (4 points), Camdyn Kashuba (4 points), and Robert Anderson (1 point).

Moravia was led by Abram Wasileski (26 points), Kyler Proper (10 points), and Drew Nye (10 points).

Marathon is now scheduled to play on the road against Union Springs on Friday (January 26th) at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon girls basketball team lost 48-27 against Moravia on the road Friday night. With this loss, Marathon has fallen to an overall record of 9-3. 

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (15 points), Audrey Ensign (4 points), Addison Oram (3 points), Marissa Allen (3 points), and Kendre Euson (2 points).

Moravia was led by Olivia Genson (12 points), Allison Kehoe (8 points), and Gabby Heim (6 points). 

The Lady Olympians will now be hosting Moravia at Marathon high school on Tuesday (January 23rd) at 5:30pm.

The Cortland Lady Tigers improved to an 11-1 record after beating ITC Syracuse with a score of 66-42. 

“A good game all around,” stated Cortland head coach Janice Meyer. “Got back into our groove offensively. They are quick off the bounce and crash the boards well, and any team that can do that well can compete usually. I love what I saw today. Some great corrections with pressure, big shots across the board and defensive intensity that matched their offense.”

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (20 points), Kendall Mack (13 points), Claire Turner (10 points), Katherine Harris (8 points), and Lily Yang (6 points).

ITC was led by Treasure Taylor (14 points) and Elise Jackson (12 points).

Up next, Cortland will play county rival Homer at Homer high school on Thursday (January 25th) at 6:40pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Chittenango

The Homer Lady Trojans won 41-31 against Chittenango to improve their overall record to 4-9. 

Homer was led by Lauren Franco (17 points), Isabelle Small (5 points), Madison Morgan (5 points), Elia Spanbauer (5 points), Elizabeth McCloy (4 points), Kaylee Darling (3 points), and Brayden Partigianoni (2 points).

Homer is now scheduled to host county rival Cortland at Homer high school on Thursday (January 25th) at 6:40pm.
