Cold northwest winds will produce a spray of lake effect snow showers and a few squalls throughout the day today.

Snow will be common throughout the county all day, but the northern, and especially northwestern parts of the county will have the best chance for steadier, heavier snow.

Accumulations will vary throughout the county, ranging from an inch or so in the south, to as much as 3-6 inches in the northwest. Most places should be in the 2-4 inch range.

It may be difficult to get an accurate measurement, though. Winds will gust to 30 mph throughout the day. The snow will be dry and light in nature and will easily blow around.

Blowing and drifting snow will reduce the visibility and keep roads messy.

Temperatures will only make it to the mid 10s this afternoon. The cold air will reduce the effectiveness of rock salt while also combining with the wind to keep wind chills near or below zero throughout the day.

The lake snows will weaken tonight, but steady flurries will remain even into Sunday morning. An additional inch or two may accumulate.

The snow will keep nighttime temperatures around 10 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Morning snow showers. Increasing sun in the afternoon. Morning lows near 10. Afternoon highs near 20.

Monday: Sun with some late clouds. Morning lows in the upper 0s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.

Tuesday: Cloudy with some afternoon snow. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.
