Homer hosts ‘Ladies Legacy Tournament’; five Homer girls place on the podium (photos included)

The Homer girls wrestling team hosted the Ladies Legacy Tournament at Homer high school over the weekend. 

A total of 13 teams placed at the event:

  2. Phoenix - 246
  3. Cicero-North Syracuse - 99
  4. Camden - 82
  5. Homer - 82
  6. Baldwinsville - 72
  7. Groton - 59
  8. Oxford-Greene - 37
  9. West Genesee - 30.5
  10. Auburn - 29
  11. Whitney Point - 27
  12. Dryden - 20
  13. Storm - 11

Mya Locke (Homer) came in 2nd place at the 114 lbs weight class after losing in the championship match against Carmen Bishop (Groton) by Fall (4:57). She ended the tournament with a 3-1 record. 

Alisa Gonzalez (Homer) won 1st place at the 138 lbs weight class after going 2-0 in the tournament. She beat Jayden Mariano of Camden twice in the tournament. She won the first round by Decision (9-2) and her second round by Fall (1:44). 

Molly Sorenson (Homer) finished in 2nd place at the 152 lbs weight class. She lost in the championship round against America Figueras (Phoenix) by Decision (2-0). She concluded the tournament with a 3-1 record. 

Lilly Sorenson (Homer) placed 2nd at the 165 lbs weight class after going 4-1 in the tournament. She lost to Gabrielle Gonzales (Phoenix) by Tie Breaker 1 (4-2). 

Eila Spanbauer (Homer) came in 4th place at the 165 lbs weight class. She lost to Hannah Morrison (Phoenix) in the third place match. Spanbauer finished the tournament with a 2-3 record.

What is up next for Homer? 

Homer will now look forward to the upcoming NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Tournament, which will take place at Onondaga Community College this upcoming Friday (December 26th). 

According to the NYSPHSAA website, the opening ceremony will begin at 12:45pm on Friday.
