Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 20th & 21st)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from this past weekend’s events:

Varsity Boys Wrestling: Cortland vs. Multiple Teams (King Bison Invitational)

The Cortland wrestling team entered five wrestlers at the King Bison invitational this weekend. 

Here are the results of each of Cortland’s wrestlers:

  • 190 lbs: Avery Canzano - 1st place (A bracket)
  • 160 lbs: Wyatt Tinker - Medically forfeit out (A bracket)
  • 138 lbs: Nicholas Hines - 2nd place (B bracket)
  • 124 lbs: Jackson Marks - 4th place (B bracket)
  • 116 lbs: Jaheim Robinson - Did not place (B bracket)

Varsity Boys Wrestling: Homer vs. Multiple Teams (Denny Wright Memorial Duals)

The Homer Trojans hosted the Denny Wright Memorial Duals this past weekend, where they matched up against Sherburne-Earlville, Sidney, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown/Pulaski (APWP), and Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville (BGAH).

Varsity Girls Wrestling: Homer vs. Multiple Teams (Ladies Legacy Tournament)

The Homer girls wrestling team hosted the Ladies Legacy Tournament at Homer high school over the weekend.

Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (IAC Championship)

The Marathon Olympians competed at the IAC Championship Tournament over the weekend. 

Here are some highlights from this past weekend’s tournament: 

  • 124 lbs: Brendan Gumaer placed 3rd 
  • 124 lbs: John Root finished in 5th place
  • 131 lbs: Zander Sutton came in 5th place 
  • 138 lbs: Braydon Homer finished in 6th place
  • 145 lbs: Brittan Keller placed 6th
  • 152 lbs: Dominick Homer came in 4th place
  • 170 lbs: Julian Spizzirri finished in 3rd place
  • 190 lbs: Dawsyn Cole placed 2nd 
  • 190 lbs: Trenton Vinson came in 5th place
  • 215 lbs: Andrew Infante-Franks placed 6th

Varsity Boys Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Little Falls

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to an overall record of 0-7 after losing in three straight sets against Little Falls.
