Cold air will push back today against a stream of warmer air, causing some wintry precipitation to break out.

Patchy flurries or freezing drizzle will be possible this morning, which may cause a few slick surfaces.

Snow will then increase late this morning and continue steadily through the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the mid 30s, so most roadways should remain in fair shape. Nonetheless, an inch or two of accumulation will be possible.

Winds will be light and variable today and will be nearly calm at times.

Steady precipitation will taper to sporadic spits of precipitation this evening. At first, these will mostly be in the form of flurries. However, as warmer air pushes in aloft, freezing rain and freezing drizzle will become more common.

This should continue through the night and into early Wednesday morning, producing a slick glaze on untreated surfaces. The precipitation may increase and become steady again before the sun rises.

Temperatures this evening will drop to near or just under 30 degrees. The temperature should rise to just above 30 degrees during the predawn hours, but is expected to remain below freezing until after sunrise.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Wednesday: Early ice transitioning to rain. Morning lows near 30. Afternoon highs near 40.
