Junior Hunter Lines recently reached a milestone feat that only a handful of Homer wrestlers have accomplished in the program’s history.

Lines recorded his 100th-career win on the mat at Homer’s annual Denny Wright Memorial Duals over the weekend. The Denny Wright Memorial Duals is an event that is “a cancer research and education fundraiser in memory and honor of Denny Wright, a beloved member of the Homer wrestling and school community.”

According to Homer coach Jason Reynolds, Lines became one of the few wrestlers to achieve this milestone as a junior. Lines went 4-0 at the dual meet tournament.

“It’s been great. I’ve grown a lot,” Lines said. “I’ve worked really hard in the room to achieve this. I’m happy that I did and that I can help others along the way.”

Lines picked up win No. 100 when he pinned APW/Pulaski’s Maleki Tennant at the 49-second mark.

“It was well deserved and well earned,” Reynolds said of his three-year Homer wrestling star. “Hunter works for it. He’s special.”

Lines, who plays football for the Trojans in the fall, wrestles not only in the winter, but in the spring and summer as well.

So far this season for the Trojans, Lines has a 31-4 record. He currently has a career mark of 101-26 on the mat.

“He’s consistent. That’s been the biggest thing,” Reynolds said. “Ever since he started with us, he’s always been consistent. He’s always been tough. You can always expect his best effort. I’m happy for him.”

Lines thanked his coaches, teammates and family for achieving the milestone.

“They’ve helped me grow so much,” Lines said. “I love my teammates equally. They’ve helped me improve every day.”
