A handful of local wrestlers are set to compete in the second annual New York state girls wrestling invitational today at the SRC Arena in Syracuse.

The Homer girls’ squad has a few wrestlers competing in the state tournament. Lilly Sorenson, competing at 165 pounds and sporting 21-2 record, is looking to return to the championship bout in her weight class.

Lilly's sister Molly Sorenson, competing in the 145-pound bracket, and Gracie Newman (132 pounds) are also set to take the mat at the state tourney. Alisa Gonzalez (138 pounds) is listed as an alternate for the Trojans.

Marathon’s Melodie Sutton (114 pounds) will make her second-straight appearance at the state tourney. She went 2-2 at last season’s tournament.

Wrestling at today’s state tournament is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The semifinal round is tentatively slated to start at 4 p.m., and finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.
