Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 29th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Oxford

The Marathon Olympians won 55-44 against Oxford Academy at Marathon high school Monday night. With this win, Marathon improved to an overall record of 6-9. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (23 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 steal), Zachary Birdsall (9 points, 6 rebounds & 1 assist), Jacob Byron (7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists & 4 steals), Camdyn Kashuba (6 points, 4 rebounds & 2 assists), Bode Carter (6 points, 6 rebounds & 2 assists & 8 steals), and Blake Birdsall (4 points).

Oxford was led by Caden Rifanburg (19 points), Donovan Rickard (9 points), and Jared Sheridan (7 points). 

Marathon is now scheduled to host Odessa Montour Central at Marathon high school tonight (January 30th) at 7:15pm.   

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated DeRuyter with a score of 65-64 in order to improve to a 7-9 record. 

Cincinnatus was led by Jack Stafford (29 points), John Schuyler (14 points), Canden Stafford (14 points), Zack Streichert (6 points), and Trevor Shevalier (2 points).

DeRuyter was led by Wesley Pforter (22 points), Devens Whalen (15 points), Nick Whitt (10 points), Daniel Holl (10 points), Dylan Foster (5 points), and Braden Metcalf (2 points). 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played on the road against LaFayette on Wednesday (February 27th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Faith Heritage

Cincinnatus Lady Lions improved to a 13-2 record after defeating Faith Heritage in 4 sets Monday night.

Cincinnatus was led by Payton Gerrard (7 digs, 2 aces, 1 kill, 1 block & 22 service points), Cassia Schuyler (7 digs, 1 ace & 17 service points), Kaedance Latta (3 kills, 1 block, 2 digs, 1 ace, 12 service points & 25 assists), Allyson St. Germain (18 kills & 11 digs), Lucy Finch (6 kills & 1 assist), Maddie Pittsley (6 kills & 2 blocks). 

Faith Heritage was led by Annika Mazzye (6 kills, 16 digs & 4 aces), Shea Burns (11 kills, 19 digs & 2 aces), Lauryn Lape (20 digs & 2 assists), and Brynna Burdick (12 digs, 14 assists & 3 aces).

Cincinnatus’ next match will be played on the road against Brookfield tonight (January 30th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Volleyball: McGraw vs. Weedsport

The McGraw girls volleyball team lost in three sets against Weedsport, making them fall to an overall record of 4-7.

Up next, McGraw will host Faith Heritage at McGraw high school on Thursday (February 1st) at 7pm.  

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Oswego

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles lost to Oswego with a score of 4-1, falling to an overall record of 3-15. 

Cortland-Homer was led by Brady Coffin (1 goal), Gabe O’Connor (1 assist), Liam O’Connor (1 assist), and Jack Medeiros (35 saves).

Oswego was led by Duncan Baker (1 goal & 1 assist), Jacob Morse (1 assist), Ian Cady (2 goals & 1 assist), Gavin Ruggio (1 assist), Jason Bartlett (1 assist), Logan Crannell (1 assist), Louis Roman (2 assists), Parker Koproski (1 goal), and Mason Kurilovitch (32 saves).

Up next, Cortland-Homer will play Auburn at the Casey Park Rec. Center in Auburn on Friday (February 2nd) at 6pm. 

Varsity Bowling: Homer vs. Bishop Grimes

Both the Homer boys and girls bowling teams defeated Bishop Grimes with a team score of 7-0 Monday afternoon.
