Cortland police’s final tally of arrests and more in 2023

A 2023 breakdown of arrests in the City of Cortland saw the count in some areas drop, while service requests were up, according to documents.

In 2023, docs from the city police department showed that felony arrests totaled to 134, misdemeanor arrests finished at 562 and violations were at 279. With 975 compiled arrests in the city in 2023, the number was down 93 from the total in 2022 (1,068).

In terms of individuals incarcerated, 515 were jailed following an arrest in 2023. This total is down 80 from 2022 (435).

The biggest decrease came through felony arrests, as the total went from 212 in 2022 to 134 in 2023.

Violation and traffic arrests — which include driving while intoxicated, drug-related incidents and traffic infractions – totaled to 3,199 in 2023. The number was 729 less than the total in 2022 (3,928).

City police made 151 separate SUNY Cortland student arrests in 2023, which is down 20 from 2022 (171).

Total service requests finished at 20,376, which increased 2,258 from 2022 (18,118). For 911 calls, it totaled to 3,622 in 2023. Non-911 calls were at 16,754.
