Multiple local basketball teams appear in state rankings

Multiple local high school basketball teams have appeared in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association’s rankings.

The Cortland girls basketball squad moved from 9th to 8th in the state in Class A. The Purple Tigers (14-1), fresh off a 70-22 victory over Chittenango on Tuesday, takes on Westhill today at 6:30 p.m.

The Marathon girls basketball team (11-3) is ranked 18th in the state in Class C. Coming off an impressive 59-13 win over Odessa-Montour on Tuesday, the Olympians are set to face Groton on the road at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

The McGraw boys basketball enters the state rankings for the first time this season, as it currently sits 16th in Class D. The Eagles (9-4) face Otselic Valley at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
