Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 1st)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Trojans improved to an overall record of 8-7 after beating Mexico at Homer high school with a score of 75-51. 

Homer was led by Max Franco (22 points), Wyatt Wilbur (20 points), Kaden Durham (13 points), and Tyler Van Etten (11 points).

Up next, Homer will play on the road against Institute of Technology at Syracuse this upcoming Tuesday (February 6th) at 6:30pm.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Westhill

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost 69-50 against Westhill, making them fall to a 4-13 record. 

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (17 points), Antonio Terrazas (12 points), Damauri Bell (7 points), Cal Albright (5 points), Jaxson Gambitta (4 points), Zachary Muir (3 points), and Ethan Johnson (2 points). 

Westhill was led by Eli Prince (29 points), Kam Langdon (23 points), Jackson Goodness (5 points), Dominic Zawadzki (3 points), Eli Welch (3 points), Colin Shiel (2 points), Kamari Lewis (2 points), and Jack Hayes (2 points). 

Cortland is now scheduled to host Watertown at Cortland junior-senior high school on Saturday (February 3rd) at 1:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Westhill

The Cortland girls basketball team won 29-25 against Westhill on the road Thursday night, improving to an overall record of 15-1. 

According to the New York State Sportswriters Association, Cortland is ranked 8th in the state for Class A

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (15 points), Claire Turner (8 points), Aubree Larkin (2 points), Kartyr Hubbard (2 points), and Kendall Mack (2 points). 

Westhill was led by Izzy Young (13 points), Rosie Mahoney (6 points), Eva Tarolli (2 points), Kara Rosenberger (2 points), and Lizzy McPeak (2 points).

Cortland’s next game will be played at Cortland junior-senior high school against Mexico this upcoming Tuesday (February 6th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Bowling: Homer vs. Chittenango

The Homer boys and girls bowling teams defeated Chittenango Thursday evening with team scores of 7-0.
