A local police force will soon have all of its officers wear body-worn cameras.

City of Cortland police chief Paul Sandy announced at Monday’s Police Commission meeting that his department recently received a shipment of new body cams.

Sandy said training for the use of body cams will be this month. A shipment of clipped holders for the body cams are expected to arrive in March, Sandy said.

In the past, Sandy mentioned that the reason that city police do not have body cams is due to the package being cost-prohibitive.

“It’s why we (didn’t) have them,” he said. “They’re very expensive. “There was never any grant funding before. Now there is.”

Further details on the city’s new body cams remain to be seen.
