Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 3rd)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Wrestling: Cortland vs. Multiple Teams (Section III Class B Sectional Tournament)

The Cortland Purple Tigers competed in the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament at Homer high school on Saturday. 

Three of Cortland’s wrestlers placed in the tournament, and Cortland ended up placing 10th overall as a team.

Varsity Wrestling: Homer vs. Multiple Teams (Section III Class B Sectional Tournament)

The Homer Trojans hosted the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament at Homer high school on Saturday. 

A total of eight wrestlers from Homer placed on the podium at the tournament. The Trojans ended up placing 5th overall as a team.

The Marathon Olympians competed in the Section IV Class Qualifier A tournament at Tioga senior high school this past Saturday. 

A total of seven Marathon wrestlers placed in the tournament. The Olympians placed 4th in the tournament as a team.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Watertown

The Cortland Purple Tigers fell to an overall record of 4-14 after losing to Watertown with a score of 61-49. 

Cortland was led by Jaxson Gambitta (11 points), Antonio Terrazas (10 points), Owen Johnson (8 points), Caden Albright (6 points), Damauri Bell (5 points), Tyler Thomas (3 points), Zachary Muir (2 points), Cal Albright (2 points), and Ethan Johnson (2 points). 

Watertown was led by Parker Moffett (19 points), Jack Adams (14 points), Seth Charlton (13 points), John Flowers (6 points), Michael Schofield (3 points), Nico Spaziani (3 points), Lawson Wise (2 points), and Kyle Daly (1 point).

Cortland’s next game will be played on the road against Mexico this Tuesday (February 6th) at 6:30pm.
