Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 12th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Edmeston

The Marathon Olympians won 49-48 against Edmeston, ending their regular season with an overall record of 10-10. 

Marathon was led by Zachary Birdsall (12 points), Camdyn Kashuba (10 points), Austin Poth (10 points), Jacob Byron (9 points), Colton Oram (6 points), and Blake Birdsall (2 points).

Edmeston was led by Izek Richards (12 points), Gavin McEnroe (12 points), Gunner Schoellig (10 points), Preston Graham (5 points), Landon Wust (4 points), Braymon Clark (3 points), and Austin Galley (2 points).

According to Section IV, there will be a seeding meeting for the upcoming sectional tournament this Wednesday (February 14th). 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Poland

The Cincinnatus Lions ended their regular season with an overall record of 10-10 after beating Poland with a score of 56-25. 

Cincinnatus was led by John Schuyler (22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists & 5 steals), Canden Stafford (15 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals & 1 block), TJ Walker (7 points, 3 rebounds & 1 steal), Jack Stafford (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist & 1 steal), Koda Temple (3 points, 3 rebounds & 3 steals), and Zack Streichert (3 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist & 2 steals).

Poland was led by Carter Cookinham (14 points), Michael Anderson (3 points), Seth Miller-Huckabone (3 points), Daetyn Jones (2 points), Kyle Grimaldi (2 points), and Kaiden Stemmer (1 point). 

According to Section III, there will be a seeding meeting for the upcoming sectional tournament on Saturday (February 17th). 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Skaneateles

The Cortland Lady Tigers won 51-31 against Skaneateles Monday evening at Cortland junior-senior high school. With this win, Cortland improved to an overall record of 18-1. 

According to last week’s state rankings, Cortland is also ranked 6th in Class A

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (19 points), Kendall Mack (14 points), Claire Turner (11 points), Lily Yang (3 points), Kartyr Hubbard (2 points), and Aubree Larkin (2 points).

Skaneateles was led by Claire Neumann (6 points), Finnly Pas'cal (6 points), Ayla Pas'cal (6 points), Tobi DiRubbo (5 points), Ellie Walsh (4 points), Allie Michel (3 points), and Isabella Pietropaoli (1 points).

Cortland is now scheduled to play Mexico on the road this Wednesday (February 14th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost to Stockbridge Valley on the road with a score of 42-24, making them fall to an overall record of 5-13. 

Cincinnatus was led by Sidney Glover (12 points), Rachael Standish (5 points), Camryn Crothers (2 points), Cortney Scutt (2 points), Peyton Tefft (2 points), and Mandi Waltz (1 point).

Stockbridge Valley was led by Karalynne Carmon (19 points), Marlie Brummer (16 points), Ella Bonvicino (3 points), Sophia Stevens (2 points), and Lilly Stevens (2 points).

This was Cincinnatus’ last game of the regular season.
