A chimney fire over the weekend involved multiple local fire departments assisting each other to put it out and contain it.

A release from the Virgil Fire Department stated that a report for a chimney fire on Daisy Hollow Road came in at 12:12 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 17). Crews from Haford, Dryden and Cortlandville provided mutual aid.

Upon arrival, there was some visible fire coming from the top of the chimney, along with some light smoke condition in the residence. Crews checked the interior for possible signs of fire extension by using thermal imaging.

Crews then climbed a ladder to the roof for access to the chimney, and proceeded to use a dry chemical agent to put out the fire. Firefighters then swept the chimney.

Dryden’s crews assisted in monitoring the interior condition with thermal imaging to ensure the fire did not break containment. Harford provided additional manpower, while Cortlandville was on standby with a firefighter assist and search team (FAST).

All fire departments assisting Virgil on scene were released by 1:15 a.m. once roof operations were completed. No injuries or damages were reported, if any, from the incident was minimal and was contained to chimney components.

Crews from the Virgil Fire Department cleared the scene at 1:41 a.m.
