Section III announces boys & girls basketball sectional seedings and brackets; Local teams to compete

Section III announced their seedings and matchups for the upcoming sectional tournament over the weekend. Local Cortland County teams will be competing in their respective sectional tournaments in the coming days. 

Below are the current matchups and seedings for all Cortland County teams in Section III:

Cortland Girls

Cortland Girls Basketball.

The Cortland Lady Tigers earned the No.2 seed in the upcoming Section III Class A playoff tournament, after ending their regular season with a 19-1 overall record. 

According to last week’s state rankings, the Lady Tigers are also ranked 5th in the state for Class A. 

Cortland received a first round bye, and will host the winner between No.7 seed Mexico and No.10 seed Vernon Verona Sherrill at Cortland junior-senior high school on Friday (February 23rd) at 6pm. 

Mexico’s game against  Vernon Verona Sherrill will be played at Mexico high school on Tuesday (February 20th) at 6pm.

Homer Boys

Homer Boys Basketball.

The Homer Trojans earned the No.10 seed in the Section III Class A playoff tournament after ending the regular season with an overall record of 9-9.

Homer will play in the first round of the tournament against No.7 seed New Hartford. 

The game will be played at New Hartford high school on Tuesday (February 20th) at 7:15pm.

Homer Girls

Homer Girls Basketball.

The Homer Lady Trojans ended their regular season with an overall record of 4-15, and they will be the No.11 seed in the Section III Class A tournament. 

Homer will play in the first round of the tournament against No.6 seed Jamesville-Dewitt. 

The game is scheduled to be played at Jamesville-Dewitt high school on Tuesday (February 20th) at 6pm.

Cincinnatus Boys

Cincinnatus Boys Basketball Team.

The Cincinnatus Lions ended the regular season with a 10-10 overall record, and were able to get the No.14 seed in the Section III Class C playoff tournament. 

The Lions will play in the play-in game of the tournament against No.19 seed Beaver River on Tuesday (February 20th). The game will be played at Cincinnatus high school at 6pm. 

The winner of the play-in game will play against No.3 seed West Canada Valley on Wednesday (February 21st).

McGraw Boys

The McGraw Eagles will be the No.5 seed in the Section III Class D tournament. They ended the regular season with a 10-6 record. 

The Eagles also appeared at the 20th spot in last week’s state rankings for Class D.

McGraw will play in the first round of the tournament against No. 12 seed LaFargeville this Tuesday (February 20th). The game will be played at McGraw high school at 6pm.

McGraw Girls

McGraw Girls Basketball.

The McGraw Lady Eagles obtained the No.11 seed in the Section III Class D playoff tournament, after ending the regular season with a 6-9 record. 

McGraw’s first round game will be played against No.6 seed Aexandria at Alexandria high school on Tuesday (February 20th) at 6pm.
