Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 17th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Track & Field: Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (2024 Section IV Classic)

The Marathon Olympians competed in the 2024 Section IV Classic at SUNY Cortland on Saturday. 

The Marathon boys’ team finished 24th overall, while the Marathon girls’ team placed 23rd overall. 

Here are some highlights from both the Marathon boys’ and girls’ teams:

Marathon Boys

  • Andrew Edsall came in 6th place in the 1,600 meter run (Time - 4:49.02) as well as in the pole vault event (Result - 9’6”)

Marathon Girls

  • Abigail Trabucco placed 6th in the pole vault event (Result - 8’1”). She also finished in 10th place in the 600 meter run (Time - 1:57.92)
  • Shaelin Phillips placed 25th in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 4:07.01)
  • Hanna Prestigiacomo came in 30th place in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 4:21.06)
  • Larina Cochran placed 31st in the 600 meter run (Time - 2:34.80)

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Fabius-Pompey

The No.1 seeded Cincinnatus girls’ volleyball team won the Section III Class D title after defeating No.3 seed Fabius-Pompey in the championship match on Saturday.

With this win, Cincinnatus ended their season with an overall record of 18-2 and a sectional title. 

Varsity Boys Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Westmoreland

The Cincinnatus Lions lost in three sets against Westmoreland, beginning their record down to 0-12.

According to Cincinnatus’ athletic calendar, the Lions’ next game is scheduled to be played at Cincinnatus high school against Rome Free Academy on Tuesday (February 20th) at 12:30pm. 

Varsity boys & Girls Basketball: Section III announces sectional playoff seedings & brackets

Section III announced their seedings and matchups for the upcoming sectional tournament over the weekend. Local Cortland County teams will be competing in their respective sectional tournaments in the coming days.
