The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office has made a promotion within its department.
Sergeant Anthony Phelps has been promoted to the rank of road patrol captain. Phelps will now oversee both the road patrol division and the criminal investigation division.
Previously assigned to the criminal investigation division, Phelps has been a police officer for the county sheriff’s department for over 15 years.
Phelps fills a position that was previously held by Chad Burhans, who was in the role for a long tenure. Burhans was promoted to undersheriff in November after Budd Rigg retired over the summer.
