Cortland County has officially launched a public outreach campaign, and a website, for the process of updating its strategic development plan.

The county recently announced Elevate Cortland, an effort to develop a county-wide strategic development plan that will “outline a vision, goals and strategies to advance the county forward,” according to a release.

The county has a few meetings scheduled this week and next week at various locations in the area. Each meeting will go from 6 to 8 p.m. County residents are encouraged to attend.

The schedule meetings are as follows:

  • Today (March 25) – Beaudry Park building, Scammell Street in Cortland
  • Tuesday (March 26) – Virgil fire hall, 1195 W. State Rd. in the town of Virgil
  • Tuesday, April 2 – Truxton town hall/railroad station, 6290 Railroad St. in the town of Truxton
  • Thursday, April 4 – Homer Center for the Arts community room, 72 S. Main St. in the village of Homer

The announcement comes after the county took its first steps to update its strategic development plan in 2023. According to the county, it’s been close to 50 years since they last updated its plan.

“This plan will act as a guiding document for county policy making and will direct how to best attract new investment and enrich residents’ quality of life,” noted in the release.

Each meeting will provide information about the Elevate Cortland strategic development plan and offer an opportunity for the public to provide comments or ask questions. The county will also host stakeholder meetings and attend various events throughout the year to further engage with the community.
