An individual allegedly stole thousands of dollars in welfare benefits, according to a report.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s report stated that at the conclusion of an investigation with the county’s department of social services, Christina M. Grossi, 36, of Watkins Glen, allegedly failed to provide required information about her household income in December (2023).

According to the report, this resulted in Grossi receiving an excess of $3,600 in benefits. Grossi was arrested on a warrant last Wednesday (March 27) and charged with first-degree offering a false instrument (a Class-E Felony), and charged with third-degree welfare fraud and third-degree grand larceny (Class-D Felonies).

Grossi was processed, arraigned, released and is now due to appear in Cortland city court on May 1.
