County Sheriff’s Blotter: Drug possession, criminal contempt and more

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office recently released multiple arrest reports.

Below are the reports:

Joshua M. Strauf and Natasha R. Kinney

Strauf, 34, and Kinney, 32, of Cortland, were both arrested on Friday (April 26).

The county sheriff’s report stated that when officers conducted a traffic stop on Port Watson Street in Cortland, Strauf was allegedly driving with a suspended driver’s license and Kinney was allegedly in possession of drugs.

Strauf was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle (misdemeanors), and for an inadequate muffler and side windows non-transparent. Kinney received the same controlled substance charge as Strauf.

Kinney and Strauf were both processed, released and are now scheduled to appear in Cortland city court on May 13.

Kyna K. Malchak

Malchak, 45, of Homer, was arrested on Sunday (April 28).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Malchak violated a full stay-away order of protection at the protected parties’ address. According to the report, Malchak left before officers arrived but, with help from the Homer Police Department, she was arrested in the village.

Malchak, who was charged with first-degree criminal contempt (a felony), had a previous conviction for the charge in the past five years. Malchak was arraigned, released and is now due to appear in Homer town court on May 21.

Samantha P. Nye

Nye, 23, of Cortland, was arrested on Thursday (April 25).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Nye allegedly stole merchandise from the Walmart store in Cortlandville. Nye was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

Nye was processed, released and is now due to appear in Cortlandville town court on May 6.
