Varsity Girls Golf: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Lady Olympians played against Moravia at the Fillmore Glen Golf Course on Thursday.

Marathon won the match with a team score of 204-250. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).

The Cortland Purple Tigers are now on a four game winning streak after beating Mexico with a score of 8-7 Thursday evening. With this win, Cortland improved to an overall record of 11-3. 

According to Cortland head coach Ben Albright, Zach Muir hit a “walk off home-run in the bottom of the 7th (inning)” to win the game. 

Cortland was led by Zach Muir (1 run, 2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Owen Johnson (1 run & 4 hits), Ethan Johnson (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Cal Albright (2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 3 strikeouts thrown), Danny Jackson (2 runs & 1 hit), Antonio Terrazas (1 hit, 1 RBI & 2 strikeouts thrown), Robbie Atkins (1 run & 1 hit), and Caden Albright (1 run). 

Mexico was led by Jacob Poissant (2 runs, 1 hit, 1 RBI & 5 strikeouts thrown), Brayden Mack (1 run, 1 hit & 3 RBI’s), Carter Robert (2 runs & 1 hit), Johnathan Greeno (2 hits & 1 RBI), Carson Race (1 hit & 1 RBI), Evan Hansen (1 run & 1 hit), and Anthony Farrell (1 run).

Cortland’s next game will be played at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex against Christian Brothers Academy on Tuesday (May 7th) at 5pm.

The Homer Troajans improved to an overall record of 7-5 after beating Westhill with a score of 2-1 on Thursday. 

“Probably the best pitched game I have experienced in 16 years at Homer,” stated Homer head coach Robert Nasiatka. “We created a couple of runs in the first and held on for the win.  Campbell (Ryan) threw a great game as well. Good defense by both teams. This was a treat to be a part of.  Mitchell was in complete control the entire game. Easy game to coach.”

Homer was led by Mitchell Earle (1 run & 11 strikeouts thrown), Evan Sullivan (1 run), Maddox Johnson (1 hit & 1 RBI), Andrew Kline (1 hit), and Tyler VanEtten (1 hit). 

Westhill was led by Ryan Campbell  (10 strikeouts thrown), Taden Chester (1 run & 1 hit), Dominic Zawadzki (1 hit), and Collin White (1 hit).

Up next, Homer will host Mexico at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Tuesday (May 7th) at 5pm.

Varsity Baseball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians lost 14-2 against Southern Cayuga, making them fall to an overall record of 2-10. The game was played at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex.

“Defensively, we made a few mistakes and it came back to hurt us,” said Marathon head coach Bryan Hoyt. “Every time we made a mistake, SC (Southern Cayuga) came up with a big hit. Credit them; they can really hit the ball. Offensively, we were aggressive and I was happy with that. We hit the ball hard, just hit it right at them.” 

Marathon was led by Camdyn Kashuba (5 strikeouts thrown), Zachary Birdsall (1 hit), Barrett Trabucco (1 run & 1 hit), Daniel Merihew (1 hit), Nash Coleman (1 hit), Matthew Washbourne (1 hit), Aydan Brown (1 run), and Tucker Trabucco (1 strikeout thrown). 

Southern Cayuga’s runs were scored by Parker Cullen (2 runs), Isaac Brozon (2 runs), Ryne Shelton (1 run), Brayden Dingy (1 run), Kyler Colton (3 runs), Benjamin Kermidas (2 runs), John Kreydatus (1 run), and Donavin White (2 runs). 

Marathon is now scheduled to host Newfield at Marathon high school on Monday (May 6th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Softball: Homer vs. Westhill

The Homer softball team lost against Westhill with a score of 22-1 on Thursday, making them fall to an overall record of 0-11. 

Homer was led by Emily Petrella (1 run, 1 hit & 1 strikeout thrown), Alexandria Kellaway (3 hits), and Alexis Arnold (1 hit). 

Westhill’s runs were scored by Isabella Johnson (4 runs), Samantha Snyder (3 runs), Alexa Korrie (3 runs), Sydney Medeiros (3 runs), Morgan Kohanski (2 runs), Catherine Cottrell (2 runs), Cadence Ramsing (1 run), Jocelyn Caputo (1 run), Camryn Matthews (1 run), Sophia Johnson (1 run), and Ava Antoine (1 run).  

According to Homer’s athletic calendar, Homer will host Mexico at Homer junior high school this upcoming Tuesday (May 7th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Softball: Cortland vs. Mexico (Double-Header)

The Cortland Lady Tigers played a double-header against Mexico at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Thursday. 

Cortland won both games in order to improve to an overall record of 6-4. 

Cortland’s next game will be against Solvay today (May 3rd) at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex at 4:30pm.

Cortland won the first game with a score of 17-3.

Game 2 

Cortland won the second game of the double-header with a score of 5-1. 

Cortland was led by Brenna Hogan (2 run, 1 hit, 1 RBI & 6 strikeouts thrown), Madison Thompson (1 run & 1 hit), Sophie Mayer (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Claire Turner (1 run & 1 hit), and Gracie-Jo Homza (1 RBI).

Mexico was led by Kacee Killam (1 run & 1 hit), Angelina Nguyen-Truong (1 RBI), Hailey Comstock (1 hit), Anin O'Neil (1 hit), and Mattelyn Teifke (1 strikeouts thrown). 

Varsity Softball: McGraw vs. Morrisville-Eaton (Double-Header)

The McGraw Lady Eagles played a double-header against Morrisville-Eaton on Thursday. 

McGraw won the first game with a score of 4-2 and the second game with a score of 5-3

Game 2

McGraw was led by Katelynn Millard (2 runs & 1 RBI), Remmington Stull (1 run, 1 hit & 1 strikeout thrown), Haylee Bassett (1 run & 1 hit), Hannah Wilson (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), and Abby Lakie (2 strikeouts thrown).

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Johnson City

The Cortland Lady Tigers won 13-11 against Johnson City at Cortland junior-senior high school on Thursday. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (2 goals, 2 assists & 3 ground balls), Aubree Larkin (3 goals, 1 assist & 3 ground balls), Francesca Smith (2 goals), Emma Marks (1 goal & 2 ground balls), Ella Starinsky (1 assist & 3 ground balls), Sophia Souzas (2 goals & 2 ground balls), Lily Yang (1 goal, 2 assists & 3 ground balls), Juliana Zarcone (3 ground balls), Saydee Willey (2 ground balls), Lillian Tinker (1 ground ball), Nora Gross (2 goals & 2 ground balls), and Elizabeth Slavick (1 ground ball & 6 saves).

The now 2-8 Lady Tigers will host Marcellus at Cortland junior-senior high school today (May 3rd) at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer girls’ lacrosse team has fallen to an overall record of 7-4 after losing to CBA with a score of 17-8 Thursday night. 

Homer was led by Maria Partis (3 goals), Ella Spanbauer (1 goal & 1 assist), Emma Effinger (2 goals), Lilly Sorenson (2 goals), and Aislynn Cobb (4 saves). 

CBA was led by Lilah Kirch (4 goals & 2 assists), Maeve Mackenzie (3 goals & 2 assists), Madison Ceclia (2 goals & 2 assists), Caroline Harrigan (2 goals & 2 assists), Sydney Vaughn (2 goals), Emery McCartney (2 goals), Ryann Murphy (2 goals), Charlotte Wilson (1 assist), Maddie Evans (9 saves), and Katie Pledger (2 saves).   

Up next, Homer will host East Syracuse Minoa at Homer high school on Saturday (May 4th) at 3pm. 

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer Trojans beat CBA with a score of 14-8 in order to improve to an overall record of 7-3. 

Homer was led by Daniel Stiles (1 goal, 3 assists & 2 ground balls), Gabriel O'Connor (4 goals), Wyatt Wilbur (3 goals), Alexander Votra (2 goals), Christopher Slade (2 goals), Cooper Swartz (2 assists & 3 ground balls), Mason Potter (1 goal), Jack Brady (1 goal), Anthony Guido (1 assist), Liam O'Connor (11 ground balls), Kaden Durham (3 ground balls), Logan Stauber (2 ground balls), Kyle Wright (2 ground balls), Brycen Poole (1 ground ball), and Benjamin Bradshaw (16 saves & 1 ground ball). 

CBA was led by Jack Wichmann (2 goals & 2 assists), Vincent Lazzaro (1 goal & 2 assists), Ben Anderson (1 goal), Jack DeMent (1 goal), Jon Fallon (1 goal), Julian Araujo (1 goal), and Will Cannizzo (1 goal). 

Homer’s next game will be played at Homer high school on Saturday (May 4th) against Auburn. The game will be played at 11am. 

Varsity Boys Tennis: Cortland vs. Manlius Pebble Hill

The Cortland boys tennis team lost to Manlius Pebble Hill with a team score of 4-1.

The Homer boys tennis defeated Onondaga with a team score of 5-0.
