A Cortland woman allegedly stole thousands in welfare benefits, according to a report.

The county sheriff’s report stated that JerriAnn Harris, 37, received $7,000 in benefits she “was not entitled to.”

According to the report, Harris allegedly “provided fraudulent information” to the Cortland County Department of Social Services concerning her previous residence. Harris also allegedly withheld information in regard to receiving benefits out of New York state while residing in the county.

Harris was arrested on Friday (May 3) and charged with three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument, third-degree welfare fraud and third-degree grand larceny (felonies). She was arraigned, released and is now due to appear in Cortland city court on May 15.
