Cortland County Legislators approved a month-long break during the summer at its monthly meeting on Thursday (May 23).

Legislators voted 11-5 in favor of taking off the entire month of July. It’s the third-straight year that county legislators have taken a month-long recess in July.

County legislative chair Kevin Fitch first proposed the idea in 2022. Fitch’s proposal was mainly due to scheduled vacations for some of the legislators and a short amount of agenda items for committee meetings and the legislative session in July.

The approval for a month-long recess means all committee meetings and the legislative session in July are canceled. Fitch noted in the past that, if needed, special or emergency meetings can be scheduled during that month.
