CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. — A Cortland man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted two corrections officers in the Cortland County Jail last week.

At about 5 p.m. Friday, two correctional officers at the jail were assaulted by David N. Wegner, who attacked them both with a closed fist, according to the sheriff’s office.

With the help of other corrections officers, the two officers were able to gain control of the inmate, authorities said.

The officers were treated for their injuries at Cortland Regional Medical Center and released. Wegner was not injured during the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

He was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor.

Wegner was arrested back in April after allegedly head-butted a corrections officer while he and other inmates were being escorted to another part of the jail facility. He has been an inmate at the county jail since December, when he was arrested in connection with the assault of a 72-year-old woman on Main Street.

As of Thursday afternoon, Wegner was awaiting arraignment in Cortland City Court.
